What is Anusara Yoga:
Anusara (a-nu-sar-a) means 'flowing with Grace', 'going with the
flow', 'following your heart'.
Anusara is heart oriented, inspiring and yet grounded in Universal
Principles of Alignment for both inner and outer body. It is a unique,
therapeutic style of Hatha Yoga in which the artistic expression of the
human heart blends magically with the scientific principles of
biomechanics. Anusara was founded and created by John Friend.
Anusara takes its name from a verse in the great text, the Kularnava
Tantra. It reads in Sanskrit, "Shakti-nipata-anusarena
sishyo'anugraham-arhati". This means, by stepping into the current of
Divine Grace's descent into the heart, the true seeker becomes worthy,
enveloped in the Grace that sustains and nurtures his or her every
action.
"Flowing with Grace, anusarena, we experience our inner worth, we
align our bodies, our minds and hearts in the current of the Divine
flowing through us, we celebrate life itself as we touch the Divinity
who pulsates within us as our every thought, feeling, and experience."

I bow to the goodness within myself, known as Lord Shiva, who is the true teacher.
This essence inside takes the form of truth, consciousness, and bliss
Always present and full of peace,
this essence inside is completely free, and sparkles with a divine luster. |

John Friend:
John Friend, the founder
of Anusara yoga, is widely recognized as one of the most charismatic and
highly respected hatha yoga teachers in the world. Blending a
life-affirming Tantric yoga philosophy with Universal Principles of
Alignment and a delightful sense of humor, John's teaching style guides
each student to live every moment fully from the heart. Students often
comment in amazement that they can perform their yoga poses under John's
guidance with a level of creative freedom and inner power that they have
never experienced before. Above all, John respects and honors his
students with a great deal of loving-kindness and inspires them to see
their own unique beauty and divine goodness.
